Yi-Su’s Affiliate project is centered around Authentic Assessment.
Yi-Su Chen, Ph.D. (University of Minnesota) is a faculty member at COB. In the graduate courses that she taught, Dr. Chen coached and helped the student team prepare for case competitions. Successful stories included the Great Lakes APICS 2015 wherein the group of graduate students took third place and was awarded $1000. The most recent successful story involved coaching a group of graduate students across COB and CECS in the 4flow North America case competition, 2020 wherein the student won the third place in this nationwide competition.
She also encouraged and involved her students to work on projects that serve to the broader community. One project of such effort focused on Network Design for Dearborn Fire Department. The most recent community partnership involves the recycling service with the City of Dearborn.
Another high-impact project involved working with Ford Motor Company on a sustainability project that provides students with an opportunity to bridge gaps between industry and academic, between different disciplines on campus, and even across national boundaries.
Ultimately, my objective is to help students get ready to apply course materials in the real world by the time they graduate. And that is what authentic assessment is about: tasks are replicates of and analogous to real problems faced by the professionals in the field.
