Maya’s Affiliate project is centered around “Students as Partners”
I am an Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice and affiliate of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I hold a PhD in Justice, Law and Criminology from American University (2016), an MA in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University (2011), and a BA in Social Anthropology and Peace and Social Justice from the University of Michigan (2009). My research brings together the areas of law, deviance, fairness, immigration, and power, utilizing interdisciplinary approaches that span the fields of criminology, law and society, and anthropology.
Ultimately, my vision of treating students as partners in learning is aimed at promoting student agency, independence, and success. As such, my proposed areas of interests are in line with several campus goals, including CASL Retention and Success initiatives, the Foundations (FNDS) Program, and the promotion of student-centered academic innovation.
