For Programs/Disciplines: Funding for Disciplinary Speakers on Digital Education
| Deadline to host and pay speakers: May 20th, 2022 The Hub is managing CARES Act funding to support speakers on the topic of digital education. Programs/disciplines may request up to $2000 (or $3500 for a panel or series of speakers) to pay stipends for external speakers before May 20th, 2022. Criteria:Faculty development on digital education Plan to include, to the degree possible, most of your discipline/program facultyRequest funds with this short google form. |

Some disciplines are deep in conversations about converting 3 credit courses to 4 credits; often faculty think first of adding more content. A 4 credit course might not need more content; your students might benefit from more learning rather than simply more content. Your friends at the Hub for Teaching and Learning Resources have curated this gallery of resources to help you think about your options when redesigning from 3 credit hours to 4 credit hours. This is a great chance to check out the DigPed at Dearborn group to see if you might want to join.
For LEOs Only – Funding Available
There are two different funds available to LEO lecturers which have increased in the last contract negotiations. Awards of up to $1200 are available through the Inclusive Teaching grant (you can read more in this blog post by the Inclusive LEO Committee). A separate set of funding is available for professional development. Regardless of your appointment effort, every lecturer with expectation of future work is eligible to apply for up to $1500. For both funds, applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with 2 weeks for review, until May 15 (apply here).Applicants are limited to one request for each fund per fiscal year, June-July, so if you haven’t yet applied this fiscal year, consider taking advantage of this opportunity now while knowing you can still apply for other opportunities that come up next academic year.

Grace Helms Kotre, a LEO Lecturer I in the Department of Health & Human Services at UM-Dearborn is a 2022 Hub Affiliate and is interested in organizing a learning community to explore “teaching for equity.” The broad goal of this community will be to support one another in developing equitable teaching methods and techniques. If you have any interest in this topic, please complete this short survey. Your feedback will help inform program planning.
